This is an Yixing teapot made from Zhuni, which is a rare red clay. Zhuni Clay has a slightly bumpy appearance that will start to develop a shine after usage. It is prized for its ability to preserve the full spectrum of flavour and fragrance of a tea. It is also the most difficult clay to fire as it is more likely to break during the firing process.
This teapot has a gourd-like or pear-like shape that is labelled as Siting (思亭 in Chinese). It is often classified as “semi-handmade” as the sculptor uses a molding tool to shape the body of the teapot, and uses his hands for the remaining parts of the teapot, including the handle, spout, holes and surface.
This tea pot has a capacity of around 175 ml.
Preparation Before Use:
Yixing Teapots should be seasoned once before use in order to remove any dust accumulated in it during the firing process.
1. Rinse the teapot under warm water for 2-3 times.
2. Fill the teapot with boiling water and then empty it out for 2-3 times.
3. The teapot is now ready for use.
